Weiss Schwarz English in 2026: a year of licences

Weiss Schwarz English spent 2026 doing what it does best: adding licences.

Where other games fight over a meta, Bushiroad's English releases are driven by which anime and game properties collectors want to hold, and this year's calendar is unusually deep. If you only track Pokemon and One Piece, you are missing the most licence-driven corner of the hobby.

The year opened with announcements rather than product.

At the Bushiroad English Conference Winter 2026 on 6 February, the English line-up gained Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines with a trial deck and booster, The Eminence in Shadow with a trial deck, booster and supply set, a BanG Dream! 10th Anniversary Premium Booster, and Umamusume: Pretty Derby. A Spring 2026 conference in May added further titles, which is how this game works: the calendar is announced in blocks and the product follows.

The releases then came thick.

Fujimi Fantasia Bunko Vol.2 arrived as a trial deck on 24 April. Nazarick: Tomb of the Undead Vol.3, an Extra Booster, followed on 15 May. Umamusume: Pretty Derby landed on 26 June with two trial decks, Race 1 and Race 2, plus a booster, which is the property's English debut. The BanG Dream! 10th Anniversary Premium Booster shipped on 17 July. Blue Archive The Animation, the set collectors circled hardest, released on 31 July. Re:ZERO Vol.3 arrived on 28 August, GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE Vol.2 on 25 September, and Rascal Does Not Dream Vol.4 is dated 23 October.

The fourth quarter is just as full.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby Beginning of a New Era is set for 6 November, Persona 30th Anniversary for 18 December, and the wrestling crossover Forbidden Door arrives on 4 December with both an AEW and an NJPW trial deck plus a shared booster. Bushiroad does not slow down for the holidays.

Know what is in an English box.

A standard English display holds 12 packs of 8 cards. Cartons ship with Going First and Going Second cards, and many displays carry an exclusive PR card. Blue Archive The Animation includes one of six, and its checklist runs to 100 card types plus 121 parallels, with 3 Secret Rares on top. The game itself is a 50-card deck including exactly 8 climax cards, and the climax combos are where the strategy lives, which is why singles demand clusters around specific climax and finisher combinations rather than raw stats.

Trial decks are the cheap way in.

A trial deck is a ready-to-play 50-card product, and English ones commonly retail between $25 and $30. Two trial decks also give you a legal game for two players, which is how most tables at local events actually start. That is the honest recommendation for anyone curious about the game: buy one trial deck of a licence you already like before you buy a display of it.

English-exclusive cards are the structural difference.

Blue Archive The Animation contains 3 ENX cards, printed only in the English edition, plus 3 Secret Rares. Japanese boxes cannot produce them. That single fact is why English Weiss Schwarz sealed product holds value independently of the Japanese market, and why you should check the ENX count before assuming an English set is just a reprint of a Japanese one.

Bushiroad is moving some licences to a global cadence.

NIKKE Vol.2 was flagged for release across the Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and English editions together, which narrows the old gap where English players waited months and paid more for the same cards.

The digital client is the wildcard.

The Steam store page for Weiss Schwarz Online went live on 15 September 2026, and a global hands-on demo ran through the Bushiroad booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026 by Demo Ticket. A digital version does not replace cardboard, but it consistently widens a licence's audience, and audience is what drives these sets. The demo ran on a ticket system, which suggests the client is still in a controlled testing phase rather than open release.

For sealed buyers, reprints are the risk to watch.

Bushiroad announces reprints regularly, including a Frieren booster reprint and a Persona 3 Reload Premium Booster reprint in the past year, which caps speculation on titles that remain in print. Buy the licences you actually want to own, hold the English-exclusive sets, and let the reprints come to you instead of paying a premium to avoid them.
